Mt Van Hoevenberg
Mt Van Hoevenberg center is the best place to learn to skate, on the wide gentle Flatlander trails, but it's a long drive up to Lake Placid. Mt Van Hoevenberg has 50K of world-class grooming and the best snowmaking in the northeast. As of 2020 there is a brand new lodge with equipment, food, showers, lockers and more. Snowmaking has allowed for the 5k world championship loop to be covered in a few days and it is a destination for training and racing. The loppet and other ski events are held at Hoevenberg annaully. However, if you are not a skier there are snowshoe rentals, boblsedding, luge, cliffside coaster, and a waffle hut.
