Skiing in NYC

We don't know anywhere they groom a ski track in the city, but there are some nice places to go and make your own track -- or hope somebody else made one before you.

Manhattan

When there is snow in manhattan it is best to get out as quickly as possible. The 3 bridle paths in central park are North Meadow loop (1.65 mile), Reservoir loop (1.1 mile), a Southern Spur (1.5 mile). Also Sheeps Meadow and the Great Lawn.

Skiing the northern tip of manhattan from IRT 145th St subway station, we walked west to Riverbank state park, then down stairs to the ground at a level close to the Hudson River. We skied north alongside the river, under the GWB, then a very steep climb, then ski alongside Henry Hudson parkway. Took skis off to go down to Dyckman St, west to the river. Thru some ball fields, took skis off to take some stairs up and over the train tracks. Then climbed north thru Inwood Park, east under the Henry Hudson Bridge, then steep downhill. East around the cove to finish at 218th St near Broadway. About 5 miles of skiing.  IRT 145th St subway station is about 0.3 mile from the start.  IRT 215th St station is less than half mile from the finish.

Bronx

Heard that Declan skied at the Van Cortlandt Park golf course (9 holes). Moshulu golf course (9 holes) is nearby and I sorta remember Declan saying he skied on that one also. 242nd St subway station is about half mile or less away from the skiing.

Ken skied on the Pelham and Split Rock golf courses -- 18 holes each connected by a brief walk under the train tracks. That seemed like a big area for a solid half-day of skiing. Nice skiing terrain, trees, gentle-to-moderate hills, but no actual views of Pelham Bay. However no subway stations nearby.

Brooklyn

Ken skied in Prospect Park. The big northern meadow seemed best, with some gentle-to-moderate hills. About a half mile from the Grand Army Plaza subway station. About a mile of skiing around the northern meadow.
